Arriving to Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) & Getting to the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre

The main gateway to Malaysia is the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2), located in Sepang, Selangor. Both airports are merely two kilometers apart and are approximately 50 km (35 miles) from Malaysia’s capital city, Kuala Lumpur.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to City by KLIA Express Train

The main airport, Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), is 50 km (35 miles) from the city center. The fastest way to the city is by non-stop KLIA express train (RM55 one way – around $14, RM100 round trip – around $25) that takes 28 minutes. Trains run every 15 minutes during peak hours and every 20 minutes at all other times. You can check the train schedule here.

You can buy your tickets online ahead of time through the KLIA Ekspres website. It is also advised to download the KLIA Ekspres App to purchase an e-ticket on your mobile device instead of a printed version.

Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) to City by Taxi & Rideshare

There are three types of taxis in KL – budget taxis, premiere, and family taxis. A ride from the airport to KLCC in a budget taxi will cost around RM100, a good option if there is more than one passenger. The charges start from a minimum price and are fixed based on the desired destinations. To book a taxi, head to the prepaid taxi counter and buy a coupon there prior to riding a taxi.

Taxi counters can be found at the Transportation Hub on Level 1 in KLIA2 and at the Main Terminal Building on Level 3 in KLIA1.

Grab is available as a ride sharing service and is one of the most popular services used among locals. Uber is also available.
