Saliva-based rapid test to quantify the infectious subclinical malaria parasite reservoir

A new tool that identifies a biomarker that indicates the presence of the Plasmodium falciparum, a parasite that causes human malaria, uses saliva rather than blood to diagnose the disease. With over two billion people at daily risk of exposure to malaria, the assay could help identify individuals with subclinical P. falciparum infections leading to reduction of the infectious reservoir.
