ISID’s Position Paper Series: Hand Hygiene

To continue ISID’s position paper series, the next topic of focus is hand hygiene in resource-limited settings. Hand hygiene is one of the most effective ways to prevent the development and spread of infections in the healthcare setting. Proper washing techniques, coupled with sustained access to soap and water can improve health outcomes for patients. Healthcare providers must take adequate time to ensure their hands are clean before interacting with patients. The addition of alcohol based hand-sanitizing solutions to traditional hand-washing practices can further improve healthcare hygiene.
