CONICET – Argentina, Santa Fe, Argentina

Dr. Pablo Beldomenico is an Argentinean disease ecologist. He graduated as a Veterinarian at Universidad Nacional del Litoral, Argentina, in 1999. In 2002, he completed a Masters in Preventive Veterinary Medicine at the University of California, Davis. In 2007, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Liverpool. There, he joined a group led by Prof. Mike Begon and Prof. Malcolm Bennett, which has been in the international vanguard of examining host-pathogen dynamics in natural wildlife populations. Back in his home country, in 2008, Dr. Beldomenico summoned scientists and students from different backgrounds to create an interdisciplinary group to study health and disease in Argentine wildlife populations. In 2010, the group created the Disease Ecology Laboratory (Laboratorio de Ecología de Enfermedades – LEcEn -) at the Instituto de Ciencias Veterinarias del Litoral (UNL-CONICET), Esperanza, Santa Fe province. The group consists of 20 enthusiastic scientists, post-grad students and technicians working hard to generate local scientific knowledge that contributes to improving public health, animal husbandry and wildlife conservation.
