David Moore is an Associate Professor in Paediatric Infectious Diseases, based at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital in Johannesburg, South Africa. He obtained Masters and Doctoral degrees through his affiliation with the University of the Witwatersrand Vaccines and Infectious Diseases Analytics (VIDA) Research Unit, supervised by Professor Shabir Madhi. His main research interests include the investigating: the epidemiology, risk factors for and aetiology of childhood pneumonia; diagnostic approaches for paediatric infectious diseases; biomarker responses to paediatric infections as a guide for rational antibiotic prescribing; antimicrobial stewardship; and epidemiology of paediatric vaccine-preventable diseases. Childhood HIV, tuberculosis and COVID are additional research interests. He is passionate about clinical research and growing the next generation of childhood infectious disease focused clinical researchers in South Africa. He was awarded a position on the International Society for Infectious Diseases Emerging Leaders Program in 2020, and is a recipient of postdoctoral research funding through the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
