David Lewis is Director of the Western Sydney Sexual Health Centre and a Conjoint Professor at the University of Sydney in Australia. He also holds a position as an Honorary Professor at the University of Cape Town. David’s research interests include antimicrobial resistance and surveillance of STI pathogens, bacterial causes of urethral discharge and genital ulcer syndromes, outreach services for priority populations, HIV/STI diagnostics and STI care in resource-poor settings. He is an elected Council member of the International Society for Infectious Diseases and a Past President of the International Union against STIs. For over a decade, David served as a Deputy Editor for Sexually Transmitted Infections and remains on the Editorial Board for this specialist journal. David is a member of the World Health Organization’s Strategic Technical Advisory Committee for HIV, viral hepatitis and STIs. Over several decades, he has provided technical support to WHO on initiatives related to STI treatment guidelines, point-of-care diagnostics, and the Gonococcal Antimicrobial Susceptibility Programme (GASP).
